World Book Day 2015!
YEARS 1-4
On World Book Day, Anne of Green Gables and Maid Marian welcomed lots of book characters to their celebrations. Each character retold his/her story using a book or props. There were roses, suitcases, baskets – and even Paddington’s marmalade sandwiches to sample!
Then, they had surprise visitors! Two newborn lambs were brought in by a pupil’s Mum for a cuddle and a little bottle-feed.
Later, Years 3+4 acted out their fractured fairy-tale play, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, using dramatic voices, etc. as they had been taught in ‘Talking and Listening.’ Pupils then engaged in creative activities: designing a national book token for a World Book Day Competition and decorating Frozen buns.
After, pupils wrote about their “bullseye”/favourite activity of the day on arrows, to stick to Marian’s target. The special day ended with Maid Marian giving each pupil chocolate coins in a ‘Medieval purse’.
YEARS 5-7
I was Charlie from ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’. I printed a golden ticket from the internet and stuck it on a chocolate bar. I read the book about two years ago.
I was Oliver from ‘Oliver Twist’. In the afternoon we dressed up and got a snack at the end.
I was Princess Kate of Cambridge. I chose her because she is famous and I have the clothes that she would wear. I had a mask that every one thought was scary! My favourite part was talking about ‘myself’.
I was Spider-Man on World Book Day. It was fun! My favourite part was showing every body who I was. At the end we got to eat some food and then we went home in our costumes.
I dressed up as Mandie Shaw for World Book Day. Mandie books are my favourite books because Mandie and Celia are always solving mysteries. I also liked listening to other people talking about themselves. I didn’t like getting my photo taken though!
I was Mariella. I brought a book called ‘Mariella Mystery Investigates A Cupcake Conundrum’. I also brought my cooking set and a chocolate cupcake. The best part of the day was seeing every ones costumes. The book was about a girl called Mariella. She has to make a normal cupcake (that was the chocolate one) but also a mystery one.
I dressed up as Heidi because I could not think of anything else! I wore pink shoes and a dress and shirt. In my story, I didn’t think that grandpa wanted me there and I did not want to stay but after a while I wanted to stay.

Fireman Visit
In March, Year 5 pupils enjoyed a visit from a fireman, who talked about hazards and fire safety in the home. After, they participated in a question and answer session.
Each pupil received a fire safety pack with games, information leaflets and worksheets. To thank the fireman for his visit, the class presented him with a handmade card to show their appreciation.
