MUSEUM ON THE MOVE ‘VIRTUAL VISIT’

Museum on the Move (1)

We are very thankful our Primary School pupils had the opportunity to participate in a virtual visit to the Museum through the ‘Museum on the Move’ programme.

Our theme was ‘Home on the Farm’.  Pupils were able to interact with a museum curator through Microsoft Teams and watch videos about farming and living 100 years ago.

Topic box

The Museum provided, kindly, a topic box of items from 100 years ago for pupils to explore, including our pupils’ favourites – the toasting fork and slug iron.

Soda bread

We followed a recipe to make soda bread.  Then, in our virtual visit, we compared and contrasted our soda bread recipe and procedure to making soda bread in the past on the griddle on the hearth.

My Invention

Our FS and KS1 pupils investigated the items from the past and compared them to their equivalents in the present.  Then, they designed future versions of their chosen items and wrote detailed instructions about how to use their inventions.

Making bicarbonate of soda Making buttermilk Making flour

KS2 pupils conducted research in groups about the main ingredients in soda bread, including flour, bicarbonate of soda and buttermilk.

We also compiled some yummy family recipes from our parents, grandparents and even great grandparents!

Thank you 2 Thank you

On behalf of MICS, we say a BIG ‘THANK YOU!’ to the Museum on the Move education team for an engaging, interactive learning experience!
